The 21,400 square foot building is two story with the first floor serving as the technical processing area and administrative offices. The second floor serves as the Library, designed to house over 80,000 volumes and a computer reference section with internet access. A community meeting room and a gallery are located within the Library. The exterior character of the Library emphasizes the strong Rail history of McComb's past.
The Interior Designers of JH&H LTD utilized a highly efficient space plan for the library to provide maximum stack space. The neutral color scheme establishes a timeless interior, along with the selection of classic mission-style furniture which compliments the architectural venacular of the building.
It was of extreme importance to the owner that the lighting design compliment each individual space within the building. A unique fiber-optic lighting system was installed in the Children's Discovery and Reading Area while natural light was utilized as much as possible in the seating areas.
At the Pike County-McComb Regional Library the Genealogy Room and the Children's Storytime Area were of particular importance to the community. The genealogy room was designed to accommodate both historical information dating back to the early 1900s and researchers investigating their family tree. The children's area also includes a hand-painted mural by a local artist depicting favorite children stories.
